Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Treatment in Scottsdale and Phoenix Arizona
Dr. Stefanski offers care for TBI patients, specifically addressing the neuroendocrinology aspect of brain and head trauma. “Neuroendocrinology” refers to the intersection of hormones and brain health. Dr. Stefanski has trained with Dr. Mark Gordon of Millenium Health Centers and integrates Dr. Gordon’s TBI testing and protocols in her practice.
One of the unique aspects of Dr. Stefanski’s work is how she combines her deep experience and knowledge of women’s medicine and hormone health with TBI treatment. She works with patients who have suffered from head trauma due to car accidents, falls, domestic violence, sports, and military service.
More about the effects of head trauma on hormones: The brain is the master regulator of our hormones. If there is damage to parts of the brain like the hypothalamus or pituitary gland, this can impact our body’s ability to make enough of certain hormones. Hormones are also important for maintaining a healthy, happy and well-functioning brain.
After head trauma, it may not be obvious that hormones are being affected and it may take years for the impacts to be known. It is now understood that inflammation can simmer in the brain for years or even decades, slowly damaging the brain tissue. Many people may not even connect their symptoms to the concussion or the head trauma they had years ago.
Many of our patients complain of symptoms like a “foggy” brain and poor concentration and attention. They may have feelings of anxiety and depression and suffer from low energy. They may also experience any of the many symptoms related to deficiencies in hormones like thyroid, testosterone, melatonin, DHEA, and growth hormone.
Our approach to assessment and treatment of TBI
Dr. Stefanski works with TBI patients via our Harmonize Health Program which is designed to support patients with complex health challenges.
Our approach starts with an in-depth assessment of all aspects of your current symptoms and health history from childhood. Based on findings from your initial 90 min New Patient Comprehensive Intake, Dr Stefanski will order the labs (and imaging in some cases) that is most appropriate for your individual situation.
More about specific hormones we assess in our TBI patients.
At your Review of Findings session, Dr. Stefanski will explain the meaning your lab results and go through your initial treatment plan. The treatment plan is typically quite comprehensive and may include hormone replacement, specialized nutritional supplements, diet optimization, movement/exercise recommendations, and other lifestyle interventions.
Follow-ups are scheduled monthly for the duration of your program.
